5th International Phylloxera Symposium - Vienna, Sept 19-23, 2010 - organised and hosted by BOKU

5th International Phylloxera Symposium     Main Page Program

Phylloxera Genome Workshop

In the frame of the International Aphid Genomics Consortium, the first aphid genome has been published recently for the pea aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum. Other aphid genomes are planned to be sequenced in order to get a better understanding of this insect group in terms of pest, evolutionary history and adaptation to their biotic and abiotic environment. Having access to other related insect species is crucial to reach these three aims, and only very few Hemiptera genomes are planned for the next future. Describing the genome of Phylloxera as the most closest basal group for true aphids will fuel our knowledge with very pertinent information on genome evolution and pest adaptation. Moreover, agriculture history has been and is still labelled with damage caused by phylloxera on different crop and plant cultures.

The group of interested researchers will meet on 19 Sept 2010 at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU) during the 5. International Phylloxera Symposiums to sort out common interests and to build a subject group to plan further actions, such as applying a grant and connect groups.

The workshop will be chaired by Denis Tagu and further information pertaining the program will be spread on time.
