5th International Phylloxera Symposium     Main Page Program

Invitation

The Symposium will have appeal to entomologists, viticulture researchers, environmental scientists, genetic researchers, phytochemists and individuals in related areas. Its main aims are to allow contacts and interactions among scientists from different countries around the world and to improve the knowledge about soilborne pests in viticulture. The symposium will be held under the ISHS umbrella to fulfill its mission to maintain a global network of horticultural scientists. This 5th International Phylloxera Symposium will be hosted by the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences (BOKU), Vienna (AT), and held in conjunction with the 30th International ESN Symposium.

The Symposium will be organized in four sessions:

  • Session 1: Biology, Biodiversity and Ecology of Grape Phylloxera
  • Session 2: Genomics, Molecular Genetics and Evolution of Grape Phylloxera
  • Session 3: Pest Management Strategies in Viticulture against soil-borne Pests
  • Session 4: Rootstock Breeding for Phylloxera & Nematode Resistance

The conference language (presentations, administration etc) will be English.

There will be two additional workshops in conjunction to the 5th Phylloxera Symposium (both also held in English language):

Instructions for Authors

  • Oral Presentations:  Each oral presentation will be given 15 minutes (including 2 minutes for questions). Computer projection will be available. Presentations must be prepared in Microsoft PowerPoint and saved to either a CD or flash drive. Please contact the audio visual desk on arrival and transfer your presentation to the symposium computer and review to resolve any incompatibility issues.
  • Poster Presentations:  The size of posters must be less than 100 cm width X 150 cm height.
  • Manuscripts:  All oral and poster presenters are expected to submit a manuscript (8 page maximum length including tables and figures). Invited speakers must also submit a manuscript with a maximum length of 16 pages. Please carefully follow the Acta Horticulturae manuscript preparation guidelines. Manuscripts must be submitted using the ISHS abstract and manuscript submission web site.
    The deadline for receipt of manuscripts is 2010-12-15

Poster regulations

The size of the posters must not exceed 113 cm width and 145 cm height. All presenters are required to set up their posters on Monday 2010-09-20 till 17:00 hours. The poster session will take place on Tuesday, 2010-09-21 from 10:00 to 10:40 am. The authors are asked to stay near their posters during this time for answering questions and discussing interesting topics.

Student Poster Award

The Austrian Students' Association ÖH has issued a special award of 250 € for the best poster of the conference presented by a student. All symposium attendees will have a vote. The winner will be asked to present his work and poster to the auditorium.
